WineChannel reporter: You have been elected president of the “Ladies of Wine” association. Can you talk about your specific job? And what does this position mean to you?
I was honoured to be elected President of the Ladies of Wine Association on 10th of January. Over the past 35 years, women have made great strides in the wine industry and I am proud to lead the Association going forward. Over the years, our involvement in the industry has also changed significantly. 35 years ago, very few of our representatives were visionary businesswomen and very few female managers. Today, our female members not only have a presence in the marketing field, but we also have many women in main positions of responsibility. I am proud to lead over 1,000 members from all over Italy.
WineChannel reporter: What is the attitude as the Association of Ladies of Wine regarding the issue of sustainability?
You are absolutely right about the topic of sustainability. It is a recurring issue, not only for the Ladies’ Wine Association but for anyone who wants to be in the wine business, especially at this particular time in history. Sustainability in the wine industry is expressed through better use of environmental resources for the production of this amazing product, such as eliminating waste and leaving more resources for future generations. To do this, we must also set higher standards of innovation. Sustainability requires learning from the experience of traditional practices that have always existed, but it is also clear that we need to strive to explore new ways of producing. For example, by reducing the harmful effects of greenhouse gas emissions on the environment, while also considering more rational and responsible uses of water resources. To achieve these goals, we must not simply think of the vineyard in terms of production, but must also conceive of production in a more long-term view. As a woman in the wine industry, this innate sensitivity has become an objective business advantage. In 2021, we have made sustainability our theme, aiming to save energy and thus increase the competitive strength of our business.
WineChannel reporter: What are your expectations for the near future of the Italian wine industry?
I am looking forward to a bright future for the wine industry. Although we have to face many challenges, we do have a very positive underlying background. In the long term, I believe that this will not only help us to overcome our current difficulties but also create a bright future for the wine industry. As the pride of Italy, wine will shine on the world stage.
