How did you receive this appointment? She is also the first woman to hold this position in the Union …
I was very happy and honored and grateful to my colleagues who voted for me and I very much hope that they did not vote for me just because a woman! Seriously, it is a great challenge and I am very honored to be able to face it alongside our president Lamberto Frescobaldi and the other vice president Sandro Sartor.
Lungarotti is a historic company dedicated to foreign markets.
In your opinion, what direction is Italian wine going in today and on which markets should it look in the near future?
Italian wine is responding well at the moment, at least it has closed a good 2021 and the first quarter of 2022 is giving positive signals on many markets around the world.
Surely we must always aim to consolidate what are our historical markets, but we must have a particularly careful eye and a particularly strong sensitivity for those who are also the markets that are opening or have recently opened to our product, also because the Italian wine is always an ambassador of Made in Italy, together with fashion, automotive, also for this reason we proudly carry the flag of our country all over the world.
Lungarotti was also a bit of a pioneer in wine tourism. Are there any news in the program?
I think that wine tourism is a fundamental tool for the whole sector, both for the larger and more structured companies and for the small ones because the well-received visitor, once he returns home, becomes a faithful ambassador of the company where he is. was. So for me this is perhaps the most important function that wine tourism has.
My father was the first to understand its importance and great value, as when with my mother they realized the
“Wine museum“, a tool of great promotion of our Umbria and one of the most interesting wine museums on an international level, because it tells the whole story of this product.
Alongside this there is the possibility of visits to the cellar, of stay, but these are all offers that must always be updated, which must always be projected on what tomorrow is and always try to understand how quickly the curiosities of our visitors change.
Only in this way will we be able to be competitive with many other countries where all our fellow producers are very good in their hosting activity, but we have an extra gear which is our magnificent Italy that truly has a wealth not only from a point of cultural view, of history but also of food and wine heritage that everyone envies us.
