A dense forest of oak trees surrounds Rosarubra. While getting to the farm, the visitor has the feeling of being landed in a fairy place from another time, where the only noise is that of the wind through the woods and native wildlife present on the lakes within the estate.

Rosarubra is situated in a small town called Pietranico in the province of Pescara which is around 390 meters above sea level. The appoximate 30ha represent a unique, pleasant and unspoilt place where biological and biodynamic agricolture blens with its own essence.

The company, biologically certified in 2003, adopts a biodynamic agricoltural system improving the soil fertility and food product quality.

The history related to the lands informs us on the agricoltural vocation of the place for vine cultivation. It’s now certain that ever since the beginning of these areas drecreeing its starting point for the spread of the latter all over the region.

You can come across the highest number of “palmenti” dug in the rocks in the territory around Pietranico. These tubs, dating back to the middle ages, were real squashing tools used especially for this particular procedure since ancient times.

Rosarubra logo

Many friends have asked us what is the meaning of the Rosarubra logo. In truth each one of us has his own: a stylised rose, the shape of the farm with the pond in the center and others. But perhaps most true is that, beyond the intentions of those who created it, the logo expresses an impression (which we would regretfully define as ‘feeling’) of care and protection of something that is precious to us and can be called several ways: nature, earth, care to do things well, pleasure to express ourselves best with elementary materials.

In short, a hand safeguarding a small heart.

An oasis biodynamic

Where organic farming and biodynamic agriculture find their true essence

Rosarubra is a biological and biodynamics winery in Pietranico. An oasis of 30 hectares valorized by a territory with a splendid terroir, where the same environment is a nest created by the nature, that protects of it and it protects the biodiversity.

The photo from the top of the vineyards and olive groves, as can be appreciated from the surrounding hills, expresses better than words the essence of the estate Rosarubra. Cultivated lands are joined by forests of oak and in some cases they are surrounded by them. The forest, much more than the vineyards themselves, overlooks and gives character to the landscape.

Indeed the forest is natural and very little has changed. Much has been generously left though for the pleasure of respectful fruition and to the lives of many wild animals. It is a vocation to “organic” which is not only in the technical features and protocols applied but its the natural order.

All this is translated in a hard job for the company finalized to the search of the maximum quality, from the best fruit to the contained wine in bottle.

Biodynamics

To the biological certification we have added the certification biodinamics Demeter, because we believe in the principle that is at the base of this discipline: recover the fertility of the ground as it was in origin.

The massive and constant use of chemical agents on grounds and crops, has created during the years an impoverishment of the ground making lose its peculiar characteristics. With the natural techniques proposed by the biodinamics, the ground is free to modify him, to grow and to become wealthy, to return to be “alive” and rich of humus.

Vineyards

The history related to the land informs us on the agricultural vocation of the place for vine cultivation. It’s now certain that ever since the beginning of the 1800’s Montepulciano d’Abruzzo has been present in these areas decreeing its starting point for the spread of the latter all over the region.

You can come across the highest number of “palmenti” dug in the rocks in the territory around Pietranico. These tubes, dating back to the middle ages were real squashing tools used especially for this particular procedure since ancient times.

In Abruzzo we have native, national and international grape varieties. Montepulciano is among the most widespread grape varieties and represents over half of the regional ampelographic base, as well as being the grape variety which serves as reference point for the DOC Montepulciano d’Abruzzo guarantee of origin and quality, which also includes the Cerasuolo typology.

It is followed by the Trebbiano d’Abruzzo white grape variety, which originated the DOC guarantee bearing its name, and is another protagonist in the winemaking history of Abruzzo. And finally the other protagonists of our history as Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon or the Merlot.

Terroir

The photo from the top of the vineyards and olive groves, as can be appreciated from the surrounding hills, expresses better than words the essence of the estate Rosarubra. Cultivated lands are joined by forests of oak and in some cases they are surrounded by them. The forest, much more than the vineyards themselves, overlooks and gives temperament to the landscape.

The ancestral relationship between primitive earth and ‘tamed’ earth returns, between what the work of man has taken, shaped and driven and what the inspiration of nature has continued to express without constraints for millennia.

The proportion of the land ranges from 330 to 420 metres with a convex amphitheatre facing north: insolation is present everywhere but always mitigated by moderate slope, varying between ten and twenty percent towards the north and northeast.

A basin at the centre of the estate guarantees a reserve of water (rain in part and in part from a vein) of about two thousand cubic meters, supplemented by wells, allowing a drip irrigation if necessary. At the bottom of the valley and when needed, a second basin intercepts a part of a brook draining a large part of the valley to the west.

Biodiversity

Biodiversity surrounding the vineyards is varied and rich in plant and animal species. Wild trees like oak, holm oak and downy oak, alder and laurel are born and flourish everywhere, as if they were to confirm the joy of living in a natural and protected environment.

Even the wildlife is attracted by this fairy place. If you are very lucky you can see little foxes approach with caution at the edge of fields as well as wolves which recently appeared after snow.

The two fish ponds are sought after migratory birds such as ducks and herons gathering here as a meeting point, perhaps for a brief greeting to friends that these ponds have chosen as their home.

Rosarubra wines

The result of a perfect combination of nature and human talent

The attention towards the fruit that gives life to the wine results in perfectly balanced bottles in each component and will improve our grapes even further, harvested in their highest level of ripeness.

The thirty-year long dedication and care of vines, the hand-picking of the grapes, and the profuse experience in cellar allowed us to get the best product possible. Montepulciano, Cerasuolo and Trebbiano are the protagonists of our history, along with the wonderful blend of local and international grapes. With their gold medals, Intimo and Trilun represent the excellence of Rosarubra wines. For us, the ultimate expression of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is the Lomanegra which was born from two different years of production. Therefore we rightfully consider it to be our wine icon. The excellence of Rosarubra fizz is expressed in Khaos, a charmat featuring an truly elegant perlage.

Our concept of quality has a very unique flavour, appreciated by different countries and cultures: such fact allowed us to receive many international awards.
