Discovering the Verdicchio di Matelica, the Italian white wine elixir of youth.

It is a special area that gives birth to Verdicchio di Matelica, the 13th Italian DOC in terms of historical significance. We find ourselves in the high Vallesina, a valley separated from the sea by the massive San Vicino. Here, the intriguing interplay between continental and Mediterranean climates becomes a partner in crime for a unique and unparalleled sensory profile, as well as a terroir that bestows the wine with mineral and acidic qualities, characterizing each glass with intensity and vibrant sensory notes. Time seems to stand still here, even for the wine, patiently waiting in the cellar for those who wish to discover the elegance and finesse that only time can bestow. Verdicchio di Matelica is like a slowly opened treasure chest, and we begin to uncover it from here, together with the producers who enhance its uniqueness.

Through this journey, we aim to showcase the Verdicchio di Matelica wines. It is a DOCG region that may not be very large. When people mention Verdicchio, they often think of the larger Iesi area. However, we desire to have our own unique identity, just like Verdicchio di Matelica. We are different, and naturally, we want to introduce our territory and our wines to everyone.

From here, we can see the Alta Vallesina (High Vallesina). Alta Vallesina is the terroir of Matelica. It is the only valley in the Marche region that has a significant size and runs north to south. This fact characterizes the Verdicchio di Matelica wine. Why? Because the Verdicchio grape variety grown in Alta Vallesina thrives in a continental environment. The Quinta del San Vicino mountain range acts as a barrier, blocking the thermal influence from the sea. Hence, in this region, Verdicchio feels like it’s in Trentino during winter and at the 43rd parallel during summer, enjoying a typical Mediterranean sunshine with distinctive continental temperature variations. The combination of continental and Mediterranean characteristics creates a unique and irreplaceable sensory profile, highly representative of the region.

We believe that the territory of the Marche region should also have its own identity and recognition. We believe that the value of products comes from understanding a territory. That is the goal we have set for ourselves. Therefore, we are collectively working together—the Marche Wine Protection Institute, 16 DOCs, small producers, larger producers—to promote the development of a territory, its uniqueness, and the beauty of its art and culture. This is what we are doing.

In our Verdicchio wine glass, we find the true expression of the production area…

The expression of our territory…

It involves a lot of hard work…

With great care and passion…

A sip full of everything…

The acidity of Verdicchio…

The savoriness…

The typical minerality of our territory…

That elegance, that finesse that evolves with time…

A full glass that brings satisfaction to those who drink it…

Very enjoyable and versatile when paired…

Verdicchio is a great grape variety with significant potential for evolution over time…

This evolutionary potential is rooted in the DNA of Matelica and all of us producers.
