An “invisible” wine shop cathedral covering an area of 45,000 square meters, most of which is underground, can be extended to 15 meters on the side of the mountain. On the Chianti hills (collina chiantigiana del Bargino) in Bargino in San Casciano in Val di pesa.
The architectural lines are spidery and circular, with labyrinth-like arches out of the typical vegetation landscape of the Chianti countryside. Constructed of materials such as terracotta, timber and weathering steel, the building evokes a connection to the deep depressions of the earth.
The land surrounding the building, where there are several ducal vines. One of the surprises is right there! The majestic screw-turning tower, now one of the symbols of the winery (weighing 100 tons), connects the three floors of the building. Observe the harmonious panorama from the side.
Reaching the rooftops, you will be amazed: the vineyards are everywhere, blending perfectly with the surrounding landscape. mound. After the visit, you can also dine in the Rinuccio 1180 restaurant, paying tribute to the founder of the Antinori family (Antinori).
The summer terrace and the large windows that surround the room ensure a breathtaking view in any season.
From the Antinori family to the land of Classic Chianti, it took seven years to complete this architectural work.
Designed by architect Marco Casamonti and inaugurated in 2012, the work respects the requirements of a noble family that for six centuries has devoted itself to wine production with love, passion and humility.
Company President Emeritus Piero Antinori is the 26th generation leader of the family, CEO Albiera Antinori and his sister Allegra And Alessia (Alessia) also made contributions to the winery at the same time.
Their desire to build with local materials while respecting their surroundings is now open for viewing and is essential to better understand the art of winemaking.
In addition to being ornamental, the winery is also functional so that it also allows combining tourism and production at the same time, so that all administrative, production and management departments come together here.
Here, you can also “breathe” the wine: the suspension bridge across it allows you to observe the whole production process at close range, overlooking the fermentation tanks.
Between the barrel storage room, soft lighting and terracotta walls, wines are aged by utilizing the natural cooling system of the underground space, and most notably, two tasting rooms have been created above the barrels and in transparent glass.
Antinori Winery has a large collection of works of art, and it advocates aesthetics. Even their 16th century coat of arms comes from the famous Florentine workshop Della Robbia.
The Academy Antinori is dedicated to classical art, where the Antinori family presents the jewels collected over the centuries in the Museum of Paintings, Ceramics, Fine Fabrics and Ancient Manuscripts.
An impressive 16th-century grape press built on the orders of Leonardo da Vinci. With the start of the new building, the first contemporary art project “Antinori Art Project” also started.
During the visit, therefore, it is possible to admire three “biospheres” by Tomàs Saracen. As well as various modern art such as Clessidra (Pile Hourglass) by Giorgio Andreotta Calò, Portal del Angel (Gate of Angels) by sculptor Jorge Peris stacking art), etc.
In the room dedicated to the aging of Vin Santo there is also the Altorilievo (petroglyphs) by Stefano Arienti.
In this exciting and magnificent building, there is no shortage of a wine shop, where there is a wide range of Antinori wines sold in Italy and abroad, of course, the best way is to pour a glass to taste, there is also a bookstore and a flavor restaurant.
