The land not only creates, nourishes, and guards, but also whispers, conveying thoughts and images.
Shamans understand the language of the land and nature, interpreting the values of ancient heritage. It’s also part of each of us.
Those legends about the cycle of life are entangled with us, in the deepest part of consciousness, in the most secret place of the heart.
In Pietranico, in the province of Pescara, in an unspoilt oasis surrounded by the sea, the Abruzzo mountains and centuries-old plants, Peck, the director of Rosalula Vineyards The Reno grape reigns supreme, and it is from Pecorino that Shaman is born.
100 years
Shaman Blanc Pecorino 100 Years is the result of a project in collaboration with Professor Alberto Palliotti from the University of Viticulture and Enology of Perugia: experiments in the restoration of ancient vines and regrafting in different regions in the fascinating context of our biodynamic estate .
Some vines were collected at an altitude of about 900, from century-old Pecorino vines in the village of Morro, Foligno, located in the heart of the Apennines in Umbria (still using maple natural tree trellis type, This is the typical “Testucchio” method of ancient Umbrian viticulture, which required the vines to grow “hugging” to the typical trees of the region).
They are then grafted into an old Trebbiano vineyard on our estate in Pietranico. The vines are picked in what scholars define as the birthplace of the Pecorino grape: in the border area between the three regions of Abruzzo, Marche and Umbria.
These are extremely low-yielding vines: all the quality accumulated over a hundred years is concentrated in a few lucky fruits.
Thanks to the constant care of the vineyards and the biodynamic properties of the Rosalula estate, the fruits arrive at harvest in optimal condition.
About a year later: the first harvest, delicately handcrafted, fermented and aged in new oak barrels, yields a fascinating wine, a unique expression of Pecorino in Abruzzo.
Vinification is done in heat-treated steel tanks, followed by aging in oak barrels for no less than 12 months. Afterwards, the wine continues to age for 12 months in steel tanks and finally, after bottling, in the complete absence of oxygen, for at least another 10 months.
The pale yellow color is the characteristic color of native grapes after pure processing, reflecting all the delicate shades of nature vibrating under the care of the warm sun.
After sniffing carefully, the combination of exquisite and rich exotic fruit aromas, flowers, green leaves and spices achieves an unparalleled harmony, which is surprising and can’t help raising a glass to taste.
The complex structure and outstanding acidity give the palate a persistent and incomparable feeling. Weeding technology, hand-picking, and long-term oak barrel fermentation make the wine more aromatic and pleasant.
This is a wine for ageing: a few bottles of Shaman Blanc should never be missing in a cellar, as its development over the years can hold some very pleasant surprises.
But those who don’t want to wait that long recommend drinking it at 10-12 degrees and tasting it with aperitifs, fish dishes, vegetarian dishes, white meats, aged or fresh cheeses.
Examples include clams baked in foil or seared snapper. Barley and zucchini, mushroom risotto or turkey rolls.
